Wurlitzer
DDX, circa 1914
The DDX was Wurlitzer's top of the line Orchestral Grand harp
when they
were building the most expensive, and arguably the finest pedal harps
in the world. Very few of these 47-string instruments were made,
and they have always been highly prized by their owners.
This harp has a new neck, a new soundboard, and has been
re-gilded and
re-finished. Its sound has to be heard to be believed! It
is a warmer timbre than most of the large harps that we do, but the
huge dynamic range allows it to project very well indeed. The
first time it was played in public after its restoration an organist
said to me "Nice looking harp, but it was so loud that I couldn't
always hear the chorus". The chorus was 60+ excellent singers,
and the harpist was responding to the director's signal for "more
harp".
This harp will hold its own in any symphony orchestra in the
world. After playing it the Principal Harpist with a major
orchestra said "I sure wish I had this harp when we did Mahler
8". I said that I thought that her harp was ideal for that work,
and she replied "That's before I played this one".
This harp comes with a five (5) year guarantee.
